The Instituto Português da Face was founded by Dr David Sanz and Prof. Dr David Ângelo in 2016.
Dr David Sanz, a maxillofacial surgeon who worked in the central part of the country, specialized in orthognathic surgery and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Prof. Dr David Ângelo has developed the same skills in the same area. In May 2016, during a maxillofacial surgery internship by Prof. Dr David Ângelo at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC) with Dr David Sanz, they embarked on a clinical collaboration that culminated in the foundation of the Instituto Português da Face (IPFACE).
Both felt the need to create and develop an international reference centre for facial treatments. Knowing that it is only possible to achieve excellence in treatments when the clinic is associated with research and training, they decided from the outset that IPFACE would be developed on this basis.
In our pursuit of excellence in medical treatments, as doctors, we focus on offering our patients treatments based on the best scientific evidence and personalized follow-up in each particular case, because at IPFACE we know that each patient is unique.
The mission of the Instituto Português da Face is to improve the quality of life of our patients, with a clinical approach based on the best scientific evidence, customizing the best solution for each case. We are driven by the comfort and satisfaction of our patients. At IPFACE, we work together in an articulated way so that the patient is the priority in each action with a family involvement and proximity, under the motto that "each case is a case".
We aspire to be a worldwide reference in face treatments through our evolution to an excellent integrated care centre for the face. We also seek to be a differentiated institution in terms of training and medical research driven by the development of our academic centre.
Research is paramount because it is only through this path that we can progress and offer our patients the best and most exclusive treatments. Part of IPFACE’s profits is annually invested in the IPFACE research unit. The most important study taking place at the moment is the TEMPOJIMS study, an international study with 7 prestigious partners in which biomaterial is being developed to regenerate the temporomandibular articular disc. This study has won 6 research awards and is a pioneer worldwide.
One of the most prestigious courses at IPFACE is the cadaver arthroscopy course at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon.
Excellent medical treatments, personalized to each patient based on the best international scientific evidence.
